I've received a lot of questions from players about the guild and since I've been mostly idling recently I've might have missed a question or two so I decided to start this new topic.

If you have any guild related questions, please place them here (or you can try to wake me up in the game, usually it won't work), I'll try to answer them.

I guess I'll start one. What are, in your opinion, the pros and cons of the different race choices available to a psionicist? Oh, and where can I go get a headful of poofy hair like you? Razz

Since guild members receive psionic strength points (psp) from int,wis and con, the ideal race would be beholder of course, but considering the slots that beholders have I myself am not going to try it out. But if you happen to have a couple of belts and rings suitable for casters at your reach, by all means try beholder out and post a reply in here Smile

If you're more of a solo player, then I wouldn't recommend the guild for you. Our solo capabilities aren't really that good, mages solo better, and you won't realize the full potential of the guild if you won't and link your mind with another psi to receive great bonuses. (Including +mental strength, which is a direct bonus to damage and which you only receive from backgrounds, the PDF blessing and from Metaconcert -discipline.)

I've tried human, dark elf and gnome while I was testing. The gnome worked fine, but not while soloing. The human worked out much better, with int and con educed, and now this dark elf has proven to be a slightly worse choice than that. I'm thinking about trying a shadowperson, since I personally think they receive a tiny racial bonus to psi damage, although Belannaer denies it. Wink

Of the other races I can't say much, but a few reminders might come in handy while choosing a race:

1. Remember to check the racial requirements from the guild, all races are not allowed to join the guild.
2. Intelligence is the primary stat, but having a little bit of extra constitution can do you only good. (you can choose wis and con backgrounds also)
3. You don't have to worry about seeing in the dark, we have a discipline that gives us better vision for a short period of time.
4. If you have PDF, spend them on the special blessing (it costs 500 PDF), or pick a race with good int/wis and spend the PDF to your con (like on any other caster guild, right?)

And for the hair...
(First you need to get at least one of your parents to give you naturally curly hair at birth, if you fail to do this, you loser, then ask Richter for instructions on how to become a fake!)
Eat lots of chili con carné, remember to watch random porn from time to time, sing a karaoke song or two at the bar every two weeks. Repeat for three years at least. Oh, and avoid the barber!

I can uncover some of the mysteries with shadowpersons.. As I played psi with a shadowperson I noticed that while I could take a rather big adversary, the psp's wouldn't last that long. With human I sucked.. The damage done was a bit bigger in my opinion with shadowperson (again Bel, denies it.) but the damage done was still huge compared to others.. So yes I recommend at least trying different races, and that which suit's your playing style.... I'd say go for it..

I was a beholder infecti for a while. Down at level 15-18 it worked really well, even soloing. I only had one set of earrings and a helmet too so it wasn't really good equipment I was using heh. Umm...if anyone wanted to go beholder infecti, it's not bad. It's good in fact. Smile The trick I used was to eye wound the target Wink. Aludan used charming them in the middle of the battle.

well here is my share for the pile.

Seems to me that beholder is the worst choice possible,
it may have nice con/wis/int but still, it blows, at higher level
i would pick some race with good wis/int and just bless the con with pdf if you have some. The amount of slots beholder has is low, so you cant get a decent psp regen no matter what you do, the "im a big head" thing doesent really work when you solo when you actually take alot of damage when hit on eyestalks (dunno if they are weak spots, but seems to me so)

Beholders have very weak psp tick, which makes partying a pain, allso their pspmax will be lower than others due to the amount of slots /int from eq they can get.
The charm eye is nice when partying tho, you can put your tanks to sleep 2 times+ their normal sleep.

And here goes the major minus part: Picking up stuff/handling stuff with beholder consumes psp, which after these all i listed makes it even worse. Leading exp is out of question, add in slow ticks and pretty bad ticks too (im wearing very good equipment for psp and still i tick bad, and yes i do have major pspr)

When will other players notice that psionicist really boosts the parties performance in everything? Take psionicists to party, thats all! Cool

a reply to Yoz's post:

as far as I know - and have tried - beholder has the same psp tick as human does... but that's true that with the beholders poor slots I had to tick longer for psp, since there is still a major shortage on smaller psp regen eq... only high-end eq's that really matter... haven't seen any random +basic or even +minor pspregen eq on the sales channel (note: RANDOM eq, not hydra earring or amethyst purple boots and such)

and Shyress is right as well... psi might not be as good as a mage in the back row when it comes to making damage, but psi can really buff up your tanks and negate monsters' abilites... perhaps it works better on offensive tanks than defensive, try it out. Keep in mind though that 'mental confidence' is not available at lower levels, hence low-level psi's might not be as effective as high-level psi's... still, even at low level you can use 'thought lash', which is quite effiecient, at least on bigger mobs. 'Mental entropy' is quite effective too... and again, more effective on bigger mobs.

that's all for tonight... I'm tired and rambling, if someone is left confused, ask on this forum or give me a tell in game.

thank you, apologies and good night.

After a long hiatus from Icesus, I decided to start anew and try something different. I decided to take advantage of the new Hive subguild and try psionicists for a while so I decided to make a Thri-kreen Infecti ...

interestingly, I took my usual 116 adv points to allow me to level to 30 ... wandered over to Rhirald to allow him to have his way with my mind ... and ...

<begin quote>
Probes move around your mind judging your worthiness and capabilities.
'Hahahaha, look at this inferior being's mind. It can't be serious about becoming one of us'.
'Hah, you are absolutely right Brareldric. Let's finish it now as it knows too much about us.'
You suddently feel really troubled and want to wake up but you are unable to do anything at all.
Immense volley of psychic assaults invade your mind destroying it totally piece by piece!
That REALLY hurt!
You get STUNNED from massive pain.
You feel better as your head stops spinning.
You have DIED.
<end quote>

now .. admittedly as an "idiotic and asinine" thri-kreen ... I'm sure I am not even close to the insane genius of Rhirald ... but considering that Thri-kreen are allowed to become Infecti .. and membership is meant to be more a reflection of some insane part of your mind .. shouldn't I be able to pass Rhirald's test without spending adv points at level one on some unknown stat that will allow me to pass his warped criteria?

Have I been lucky enough to be the first attempted Thri-kreen Infecti and found this special "feature" of the guild? Confused

I think only Thri-kreen that have a special mutation from their hive are allowed to join infecti. You probably want to hike out to the hive first.

Darn ...

I decided to try that since the same thought occured to me ...

and got rudely sent to the Netherworlds by 4 aggro harpies ...

I guess it that's what's required I'll have to do the long overland trek with my pitiful ep ....

why are poor Thri-kreen so discriminated against? Neutral

Yes, there's already a command for it. It's called 'party'.
