By concentrating on his defences a talented mage can<br /> create a field of magic around him. The field can absorb incoming spell<br /> energy, protecting the person inside from the harmful effects of a ball of<br /> fire, for example. The protection is not fool-proof, the chance of success<br /> depends on the talent and concentration level of the person using the<br /> field, as does the power of the field.
