Year — · The Living Chronicle
- Each game year, the five greatest heroes of Aegic are crowned Legends. Their deeds are recorded in the Hall of Legends.
The World of Icesus
The Valley of Icesus is the last place where life remains on the frozen planet of Aegic — a vast valley shielded by mountains and a shimmering forcefield, while the rest of the world lies under solid ice. Merciless winters bury the land in snow each year, but when it recedes, life is reborn in a short, passionate summer. This is the frontier between civilisation and wilderness, between light and dark. And it is becoming a battle field.
In the south, the kingdom of Valkor rules from Vaerlon — horsemen, khatuns, and the Church of Elements holding rebellion at bay. The north belongs to the Eskarans, their wilders and warlocks, the nomadic Gaesati, and the displaced Goblin peoples. But Valkor's expansion has stalled; khatuns whisper of civil war; witches walk in daylight again. The valley stands on the edge of something.
What to Expect
Icesus is a free text-based online RPG — a multi-user dungeon (MUD) focusing on tactical party combat, deep character development, crafting, player economy, and cooperative gameplay. Built by a non-profit community and continuously developed since 1995. See our Features and learn more.

A world that rewards commitment
No shortcuts, no pay-to-win. Your reputation, your gear, your knowledge of the world — all earned, none of it handed out, none of it taken away.
Our Mission & What We Do
Jää ry exists to help people read, write, and tell stories together in English. Our way of doing that is Icesus: a free, text-only online world where every room, battle, and conversation is written and read. Everything we make is free, and nothing is behind a paywall. The association:
- Maintains a free online world — the Icesus game servers, web client, wiki, and forum, online continuously since 1995.
- Publishes free learning material — setup guides, a player's handbook, and a public wiki documenting the world, written by volunteers.
- Builds accessible software — our browser client is designed for screen readers, and accessibility reports are prioritised. See our accessibility statement.
- Mentors volunteers — new contributors learn world-building, creative writing, and programming from experienced volunteer wizards. How to contribute.
- Governs openly — members elect the board at the annual general meeting, and the association's rules are public.
